Water Boilers

Water boilers classified as WEEE (category 1 and 4) were generally processed in conventional shredding lines with the sole aim of recycling the metals. However, this method of treatment no longer complies with current regulations.

The Treatment Decree of 23/11/2005, modified by the Decree of 8/10/2014 (resulting from EU directive 2012-19), requires that domestic appliances containing volatile fluorocarbons or volatile hydrocarbons be extracted and treated in accordance with standard EN 50625-2-3 of July 2017. This European standard requires the operator of the treatment plant to extract, capture (in an encapsulated system) and dispose of or recycle these gases, which are highly harmful to the environment. More and more thermal boilers also include a compressor. These pumps must also be properly recycled, and the gases and liquids they contain must also be recovered.

Coolrec has developed its own systems to recycle the boilers in a (semi)automatic manner. It will be possible to deliver and process boilers on our Coolrec France in Lesquin from end 2024.

From waste to product

At Coolrec, we pride ourselves on being a key European player in the circular economy.

The materials that we reclaim through our recycling operations continue onwards into our solutions ecosystem.

They become secondary raw materials, which we either upcycle ourselves, through partnerships with innovation-minded companies,  or offer for sale to producers who value circularity as much as we do.
